Can you
imagine yourself searching for a boyfriend or girlfriend in a traditional event
made only for this? Depending on the culture that you live in perhaps this can sound
a little weird or promiscuous to you, but in Ireland
there is a tradition which has been very popular in the city of Lisdoonvarna for the last
couple of hundred years.
From August,
28th to October, 4th, you can enjoy the most famous
matchmaking festival from Ireland
in Lisdoonvarna. You can dance, do horse racing, go to concerts, and meet a lot
of new people. However, it’s not necessary that you go there to look for a
spouse or courtship, thousands only go to have fun and do things without
commitment.
Imagine if
you could choose a lot of pubs to get in and have conversations with a lot of
different people of your interest, where your age, sexuality, likes or dislikes
don’t matter, because it’s a normal tradition. And the best part of it is that
time doesn’t even matter, because the music carries on until the early hours!
Maybe if
you think about the way that you typically use to meet people in your culture
this might seem a big promiscuous to you or perhaps it might seem as a great
option. But try to imagine if you would have any sort of relationship with
anyone in a tradition like this.
The most famous
matchmaking festival is organized by Mr. Will Daly, who is known for having facilitated
around 3.000 marriages (no official record) and having attracted 60.000 people
in the last matchmaking festival. In his festival, new things started to happen
such us gay, bisexual and transgender weekends, but despite the fact that Mr.
Daly is an elderly person, he said that “everyone should be in love, all their
lives.”
I think our culture is missing the commitment in a relationship, mowadays we see different young people "flirting". They use the name "andando" to represent a relationship without commitment , where one of the two people can be with someone else easily. However this matchmaking festival is a little different for what a I know, here you can meet people who have the same likes and dislikes than you in an entertaining environment and not necessarily to have a loving relationship. When you go out to a disco , in general people dance and make out with strangers , But not strike up a conversation about themself, is something only for a one night stand (that is promiscuous).
ResponderEliminarIn mi opinion I would prefer the old relationships ,where love was not taken to drift ( except if you were pregnant, there was your duty to marry). well, love nothing is said , at least we are in a society where we are allowed to love and love whomever we want. I like your entry Lucas ,thanks for sharing.
To me this is a good idea, but our society is closed-minded to have an event like this one in Ireland, here if in a moment (in the furture) someone does this event, he or she will be very criticize by all the closed-minded people, because in Chile the people try to be too much correct, but they're cynical, because in their life they're worse than people who will go to this event because they'll not be embarressed by their lifestyle opposite the closed-minded people.
